Solar Blankets

Some of the best campsites have nowhere flat to put a solar panel. Sand, spinifex, a rocky shelf above the water, a caravan park slab already taken up by the annexe. A framed panel wants clear level ground and a bit of room around it, and plenty of good spots simply do not offer that.

A solar blanket does not ask. It has no legs and no footprint, so it goes over a bonnet, along a windscreen, flat across a roof rack or hung off the awning arm with the eyelets sewn into the edge. Wherever the sun is landing, that is where it can sit.

The format is what allows it. Fabric backing instead of a frame, so it folds down like a swag and stows behind a seat rather than taking a drawer. A 200W solar blanket weighs a fraction of a framed panel of the same rating and takes seconds to lay out.

Check the regulator on the lead before you buy, because most blankets ship with one already fitted and it needs to suit the battery you are charging. Beyond that, this is about as uncomplicated as camping solar panels get.

The Hardkorr 200 watt portable Solar Blanket with a 15A Smart Regulator is the perfect source of power to charge your battery on a weekend trip away.
