It was built for a loom inside a vehicle, not for a run that spends its whole life on a roof with the sun on it. Solar cable is built for the other job: heavier copper strands, double insulation, and a jacket rated for UV and heat rather than for the inside of a door cavity.

Size is the other half. 4mm cable covers most single panel runs. 6mm is the call once the array grows or the distance from roof to regulator gets long, because voltage drop scales with both current and length and none of it reaches the battery. Cable here is sold by the length rather than the drum, so you buy the run you need.

Pre-made solar cable leads with MC4 ends already fitted save you the crimping, and more usefully they save you a crimp made in the wrong tool at the wrong angle. Leads cover MC4 to MC4, MC4 to Anderson and Anderson to Anderson in the common lengths, and fused leads come with the fuse already in line.

Buy the length you need rather than coiling three metres of spare behind a panel. Neat runs are easier to fault-find in two years, when you have forgotten exactly what you did.

Connect your permanent solar panel with confidence using this 1m Rekcharge solar cable.
