Product Information

Product Description

The Roof Mount Explorer system organises all your 12V power controls into a single, pre wired unit that mounts neatly on the ceiling of your canopy. With a sleek blacked out Roam Gear design, it's built to keep your setup clean, tidy, and out of the way. This version features the proven Enerdrive ePRO Plus battery monitor, giving you a clear, accurate overview of your system's status.

At its core is the Enerdrive ePOWER DC2DC40+ charger for both vehicle and solar input. The panel comes pre wired with four circuit breakers, four Contura switches for your lights and accessories, a 50A Anderson plug for your fridge, a 12V cig socket, and a dual USB socket. A battery reset button is also included for kickstarting a flat battery.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 12V power distribution box and why do I need one?

A 12V power distribution box acts as the central command centre for your vehicle or canopy electrical system. Instead of running numerous individual wires directly to your battery, which often leads to a messy and unreliable setup, a distribution box allows you to consolidate all your circuits into one secure location.

This provides a tidy, professional way to manage power for your fridge, lighting, water pumps, and charging ports. Centralizing your circuits makes it much easier to troubleshoot electrical issues when you are remote, as you can quickly identify the source of a fault rather than digging through hidden wiring. It also simplifies the process of adding new accessories as your adventure needs evolve. Browse our range of 12V Distribution Boxes to find a hub for your build, or explore our 12 Volt Accessories to see how these hubs integrate with your broader power setup.

What are the benefits of using a distribution box versus hard-wiring individual components?

Using a distribution box replaces a messy web of independent wires with a centralized, manageable hub. Hard-wiring individual components directly to a battery leads to cable clutter and makes diagnosing electrical faults extremely difficult when you are in a remote location. A distribution box organizes every positive and negative feed into one accessible point, where each circuit is clearly labeled and individually fused.

This organized approach is not just about aesthetics; it is about long-term reliability. A centralized hub reduces the number of connections at the battery terminals, which prevents those points from loosening due to the vibration of corrugated tracks. This system is also much simpler to expand, as you can add new accessories to the distribution box without redoing your entire wiring project. Explore our Power Distribution Boxes to see the available mounting options, or browse our 12V Distribution Boxes to find the right capacity for your vehicle.

How do I use a distribution box to organize my 4WD or canopy electrical circuits?

You organize your canopy or 4WD electrical circuits by running the main power feed from your battery to the distribution box, then branching out to each individual appliance from that centralized hub. This structure keeps your wiring routes short, tidy, and easy to label.

You can group related accessories, such as all lighting runs or fridge and pump circuits onto dedicated fuses within the box. This approach prevents the common issue of overcrowding your battery terminals, which is a major benefit for maintaining a vibration-resistant connection on remote tracks. It provides a clean, professional finish that allows you to add or troubleshoot circuits without disturbing the rest of your system. Browse our 12 Volt Accessories to find switches and sockets for your circuits, or explore our 4WD collection to see how these hubs fit into a touring canopy build.

Can a power distribution box include built-in DCDC charging and battery monitoring?

Yes, many professional-grade power distribution boxes include integrated DCDC charging and monitoring capabilities. These advanced hubs consolidate the management of your energy inputs, such as your alternator and solar panels, alongside the outputs for your campsite accessories.

This approach is a popular choice for van and canopy builds because it removes the need to mount multiple separate units, saving you space and simplifying the overall wiring footprint. Having an integrated monitor directly on the distribution hub allows you to keep an eye on your battery bank's state of charge and current draw with one glance. It turns your power management into a clean, centralized system that is easy to manage while you are off-grid. Browse our selection of DCDC Chargers to see the technology powering these hubs, or explore our range of Battery Monitors to find a unit that fits your dashboard.

What size power distribution box do I need for my 12V setup?

The correct size depends on the number of individual electrical circuits you plan to run. You should count every accessory, such as lighting zones, USB sockets, pumps, and fans, and ensure the distribution box has at least one spare circuit for future upgrades.

Selecting a unit with more capacity than your current needs provides the flexibility to add gear later without needing to replace the entire hub. For larger builds like a caravan or a fully kitted-out canopy, look for a hub that can handle 6 to 12 circuits to keep your wiring organized. If your space is restricted, a compact, modular box may be the most effective choice. Browse our full selection of Power Distribution Boxes to compare capacities, or explore our 12V Distribution Boxes to find a fit for your specific vehicle layout.

Does a power distribution box come pre-fused, and do I still need a main circuit breaker?

Most power distribution boxes include pre-installed fuse holders for each individual circuit, which protects your specific appliances like lights, pumps, and USB sockets. While this protects the wiring for each accessory, it does not replace the need for a main circuit breaker or master fuse at the battery.

You must still install a high-capacity breaker on the primary feed cable between your battery and the distribution hub to protect the entire system from shorts or catastrophic overloads. A master fuse is the vital safety link that shields your battery and the main vehicle wiring from damage if a fault occurs in the heavy cabling. The smaller fuses in the distribution box only safeguard the light-duty circuits running to your accessories. Browse our selection of Circuit Breakers & Fuses to find protection for your main line, or explore our full range of Power Distribution Boxes to see how these hubs manage your circuits.

Are power distribution boxes waterproof or weather-resistant?

Most power distribution boxes are designed for weather-resistant use, providing a protective shell that shields internal wiring from dust, red dirt, and moisture. This design makes them well-suited for installation in vehicle canopies, camper trailers, or boat bulkheads where protection from the elements is a priority. While they are built to withstand the humidity and road grit found in these environments, they are not intended to be submerged in water.

If you are installing a hub in an open ute or a high-exposure marine area, ensure that all cable entries are sealed properly with cable glands. You can improve your system's durability by using Plugs & Connectors that feature weatherproof covers, which keep your exposed terminals protected when they are not in use.
