About MC4 Connectors
On a roof, MC4 is the connector that locks.
An Anderson plug pulls apart by hand, which is what you want on a fridge lead. An MC4 clicks together and needs a tool to release, which is what you want on a roof. A connection that lives in sun and wind and vibration for years, that nobody will check, that cannot be allowed to work loose, wants a latch. MC4 has one.
It is also sealed and polarised. Sealed so rain and dust stay out of the contacts. Polarised, so the pairing is one way round by design. The MC4 shape is used by many manufacturers, but the connectors' own maker is clear that connectors of different makes should not be mated, so match the type and manufacturer on both halves rather than trusting that they click together. Check polarity as you terminate; the shape is not a substitute for that.
The parts here are the connector pairs for terminating your own cable, the inline fuse holders that sit in the panel lead and protect the roof run, the replacement fuses for them, and the crimp tool that makes the pin joint properly. MC4 pins need their own die because the barrel is small and the geometry is particular. Pliers do not do it.
Check what is already on your panels and leads, and buy the matching type. A pair that does not quite mate is a connector that arcs.
