About LED Downlights
In a van or a canopy, every surface is already doing something. The walls carry gear, the floor carries drawers, the bench carries whatever you are working on. The ceiling is the only place left, which is why the light ends up there.
That makes the fitting depth the first thing to check, not the brightness. A recessed downlight needs clearance above the lining for the body and the cable, and roof linings vary from a few millimetres of ply to a full sandwich panel with insulation in it. Measure before you cut, because a hole in a ceiling is not a mistake you undo.
Flush mount is the format here, in a choice of finishes and in both cool white and warm white. The colour temperature matters more than the finish. Cool white over a bench is right for working. Warm white over a bed or a table is right for everything else. Pick the temperature for what the light sits above, not for the look of the fitting.
Beyond that it is a question of how many and where. Two smaller fittings spread across a space beat one bright one in the middle, because the middle one puts your own shadow over whatever you are doing. Put them over the areas you actually use rather than at the geometric centre of the ceiling.
