About Plugs, Connectors & Accessories
An Anderson plug has no male end and no female end. Within a matching series and housing, any plug mates with any other either way round. That single design decision is why they turn up on nearly every camper trailer, canopy and portable panel lead in the country.
It sounds like a small thing. It is not. It means you cannot buy the wrong half, you cannot wire a trailer that will not connect to the next vehicle, and a lead made up by someone else will still fit yours. Add a contact face rated for real current and you have a connector that stays sorted for the life of the vehicle. Whether a given housing may be connected or disconnected under load is a property of that specific connector, so check its rating rather than assuming.
MC4 is the solar equivalent, and it is the opposite approach. Male and female, sealed, and made to stay connected. The shape is widely used, but match the type and manufacturer on both halves rather than assuming any two will pair.
The rest of this collection is what keeps those joints alive. Glands and entry covers where cable passes through a wall or a roof. Heat shrink and boots. Housings that let a plug live on the outside of a canopy without collecting water.
None of it is expensive. All of it is the difference between a 12V system you never think about and one you spend a weekend fault-finding.
