About ABS Mounting Brackets
Every bolt that goes through a roof is a seal you have signed up to maintain for the life of the vehicle. Sealant moves, UV works on it, and the fixing that was watertight in the driveway becomes your problem again in a few years.
Bonded ABS brackets sidestep that. Nothing passes through the skin, so there is nothing to reseal, nothing to chase with a torch when a damp patch appears in the ceiling lining, and nothing to explain to the next owner. On a composite caravan roof or a pop-top, that argument usually decides it on its own.
The material suits the job. ABS is light, holds up to UV without going chalky or brittle, and takes a structural polyurethane adhesive well. Scuff both faces, clean them properly, use an adhesive actually rated for structural bonding, and the joint will outlast the panel it is holding.
The limit is load. ABS is right for panels up to a moderate size on a roof that is not copping constant heavy corrugations. Past that, an aluminium bracket and a bolt is the honest answer.
Give the adhesive its full cure before the vehicle moves again. It is the only step in the job that costs nothing, and the one most often skipped.
