Overview

Product Information

Product Description

Hardkorr’s durable battery enclosure lets you convert a standard deep-cycle battery into a versatile portable power source. It’s made from tough ABS plastic, meeting the UL 94V-0 standard (flammability of plastic), and is compatible with AGM, Lithium, Wet, Gel and Calcium batteries up to 330mm (L) x 180mm (W) x 240mm (H) in size.

The unit features two 12v outlets, dual USB ports, four 50A Anderson-style outlets, and a 175A Anderson-style outlet for jump-starting. All Anderson-style ports are recessed for durability, and the heavy-gauge wiring ensures reliability. You can charge the battery from various sources and monitor your battery's status with the large digital display.

Set up a dual battery system using this battery box, simply by using either a DC-DC charger or Hardkorr’s optional 50A Voltage-Sensitive Relay (VSR) and Dual Battery Wiring Kit.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do pre-wired battery boxes have a built-in DC-DC charger?

Most entry level pre-wired battery boxes do not include a built-in DC-DC charger. These units typically provide the physical housing, fuses, and various power outlets like USB and cigarette sockets, but they require an external charger to properly manage power from your vehicle alternator.

Higher tier models may come with an integrated charger, which makes them a true plug and play solution for your canopy or tray. If your box lacks this feature, adding an external unit is the only way to correctly charge your auxiliary battery while driving. This prevents your starter battery from going flat and keeps your second battery healthy.

Explore our range of DCDC Chargers to find a compatible unit for your vehicle, or browse our selection of 12V Batteries to fill your box.

How do I connect a solar panel to a pre-wired battery box?

Connect your solar panel via the dedicated Anderson plug input usually found on the side or lid of the box. Most pre-wired boxes feature a specific input that is already fused and wired directly to the internal battery terminals, making it a quick and tidy connection for camping.

You must verify if your solar panel is regulated before plugging it in. If the battery box does not have a built-in solar controller, you need a panel with its own regulator or an inline controller to prevent overcharging. This simple connection allows you to keep your fridge and lights running while your vehicle stays parked in the shade.

Are pre-wired battery box voltage meters accurate for lithium batteries?

Built-in voltage meters provide a rough guide but are often less accurate when paired with lithium batteries. Lithium has a very flat discharge curve, meaning the voltage stays quite high until the battery is almost empty. A standard meter designed for lead acid might show a high reading even when the battery only has twenty percent capacity remaining.

To get a true understanding of your power levels, a shunt based monitor is much more effective. It measures the actual current flowing in and out of the battery rather than just guessing based on voltage. This gives you a clear percentage of remaining charge, which helps you manage your usage better during long off grid stays.
