Rekcharge 12V Black Flush Mount Round LED Downlight (Cool White)

Recessed downlights are the preferred choice for a clean and professional finish in caravan or van ceilings where you have the depth to cut a mounting hole. These sit flush with the surface, which prevents them from being knocked and provides a more integrated design.

Surface mount lights are better for hard surfaces like 4WD canopy roofs or metal frames where you cannot easily cut a hole. These units are thinner than standard fixtures and bolt directly to the surface, making them a practical solution for DIY builds. Both styles provide excellent illumination, so the choice usually depends on your available mounting depth and the material of your ceiling.

Cool white is the best choice for areas where you need high visibility for tasks, such as over the kitchen galley or in storage compartments. It provides a crisp and bright light that makes it easier to see details while cooking or sorting gear.

Warm white is better for the main living and sleeping areas because it creates a softer and more relaxed atmosphere similar to household lighting. Many travelers choose to zone their lighting, using different colors for different tasks. To manage these separate areas effectively, explore our range of 12V Switch Panels to create a centralized control hub for your cabin.

Most standard 12V LED downlights are dimmable, provided you use a compatible PWM controller. Dimming allows you to transition from bright task lighting to a soft ambient glow for the evening, which significantly improves the comfort of your interior space.

Adding a dimmer is a practical way to reduce glare during a late night cuppa or while relaxing in bed. It also helps manage your energy levels by allowing you to dial down the brightness when full power is not required. Explore our collection of 12V Dimmers to find a control solution that matches your lighting setup.

12V LED downlights are incredibly efficient and typically draw between 0.1 and 0.3 amps per hour. This ultra low consumption is a major advantage for off grid travel, as you can run multiple lights throughout the evening with almost no impact on your battery levels.

Even with a full interior array active, the power draw is a fraction of what older halogen lights would pull. This efficiency means you can stay stationary for longer without needing a constant solar recharge.
