Rekcharge 50mm Battery Cable Lug with 8mm Hole

To choose the right size lug, you must match the internal diameter of the lug barrel to your cable gauge and the hole size to the bolt or stud you are connecting to. For example, if you are using 2 B and S cable and connecting to an M8 battery terminal, you need a lug specifically rated for that wire size with an 8mm hole.

Using the correct size allows for maximum contact and prevents the terminal from overheating. It is a critical step for maintaining a safe and efficient power system while traveling. Most 12V deep cycle batteries use either an M8 or M10 threaded stud for connections. You should always measure the bolt diameter on your specific battery to confirm a tight fit, as using a lug with a hole that is too large reduces the contact surface area.

A poor fit can lead to high resistance and unnecessary heat buildup during high current draw. Keeping your connections firm and correctly sized helps your system perform at its peak during long trips. Check our range of AGM Deep Cycle Batteries to find your terminal type and match your hardware correctly.

Crimping is the superior method for terminating round lugs in a vehicle because it creates a mechanical bond that resists the constant vibration of off road travel. Solder joints can become brittle and crack over time when exposed to corrugated outback tracks, which leads to a loss of power or potential electrical shorts.

A professional crimp provides a low resistance connection that remains secure for years. This is vital when powering high draw appliances through Inverters or when wiring master protection circuits. Taking the time to crimp your terminals correctly provides more confidence when you are deep in the bush.

No, you should not use standard pliers or a hammer to crimp battery lugs. These methods do not provide the consistent, high pressure force required to create a safe and permanent electrical connection. A loose terminal creates high resistance, which can lead to significant voltage drop and even an electrical fire under heavy load.

To achieve a secure result, you should use a dedicated heavy duty crimping tool designed for the specific gauge of cable you are using. This approach prevents terminal failure and keeps your setup performing correctly on every trip. Investing in the right tools is a smart move for any DIY builder.
