Hardkorr Battery Box Mounting Tray and Straps

Securely mounting a battery box is best achieved with a heavy duty tie down strap or a dedicated metal tray. A loose battery can cause electrical faults or physical damage to the housing when traveling over corrugated outback tracks.

Most boxes include external strap points, but for a more permanent solution, you can bolt a mounting tray to your canopy floor. This prevents the box from sliding and keeps the internal battery terminals safe from vibration and movement. It is a simple way to protect your power system from the rough reality of Australian roads.

You can replace a standard cigarette socket with an Engel or Merit style plug as long as the cutout size in the lid matches. This is a common upgrade for travelers who want a more secure, vibration proof connection for their portable fridge.

Engel plugs feature a threaded locking collar that prevents the lead from vibrating loose on rough roads, which is a common cause of spoiled food. Make sure the wiring behind the socket is rated for the current draw of your fridge before making the switch. This upgrade helps you build total confidence in your food storage while you are off grid.

Most pre wired battery boxes use standard blade fuses for the auxiliary circuits and a larger MIDI or ANL fuse for the main power input. You can typically find these fuses located inside a dedicated block or holder within the box lid.

It is wise to carry a spare set of fuses in your glove box or tool kit in case of an electrical fault. Using the correct amperage rating for each circuit protects your gear and your wiring from overheating if a short occurs. Replacing a blown fuse is much easier than repairing melted cables deep in the bush.

Rubber dust covers are a practical addition that protects the internal terminals of your Anderson plugs from dust, water, and road spray. Without a cover, salt air and red dirt can build up inside the plug, leading to corrosion and poor electrical conductivity.

Using these covers is particularly useful for external plugs mounted on a tow bar or canopy wall. They keep the connection face clean and ready to use every time you plug in your gear. It is a minor detail that saves you from cleaning out gunk before every camp setup.
