About Battery Cable
Battery cable is sized by the current it carries and the distance it carries it, and the second half is the part people forget.
A charger rated at forty amps three metres from the battery needs a different gauge to the same charger thirty centimetres away. An inverter pulling two hundred amps wants cable most people would call welding lead. A light circuit drawing two amps runs happily on something a fraction of the size. The chart is not complicated, but it has to be read with the real run length, and the run is there and back.
Cable here is sold by the half metre, in the gauges a 12V install actually uses. Single core in red and black for the heavy runs where the positive and negative take different paths. Twin core for the lighter runs where they travel together. Automotive cable for the small circuits.
Kits sit alongside the bare cable, for the jobs that are the same every time: a DC to DC charger front to back, an inverter to a battery bank, a shunt to a battery post. The kit has the cable cut, the lugs fitted and the fuse rated, which takes three decisions out of the job.
Buy a little more than the measurement says. A run that comes up short is a joiner, and a joiner is a place for resistance to live.
